WHY DO WE BOTHER

to sort our rubbish and recycle?????????????/

Okay, so its bin day, and alternate Tuesdays is recycling bin you know garden waste bottles, cans, plastic and paper.

So hereabouts we actually have two wheelie bins and in my case four (yes 4) smaller boxes for things that can't go into the garden/kitchen waste wheelie bin, bored yet don't be because the point of this is coming.

So last night all the recycling bottles, paper and cardboard is sorted into the small boxes ready for the bin men, so at the end of my drive are 1 large wheelie bin with grass clippings and other garden stuff and 4 blue boxes with paper in one, plastic bottles (squashed down) in another cardboard and glass bottles in the other 2 (stay with me here).

So morning comes and eventually, I say eventually cause you have to have the bin/boxes out by 7 am, and Mr Cleansing Dept comes along in his wagon at 12.30 (must have had a lie-in) and empties the glass box, he is followed 30 mins later by and Mr CD who empties the wheelie bin, who is then followed by the first wagon emptying the other 2 boxes (hope you're keeping count)
that have the paper and cardboard in them leaving blue box 4 containing plastic bottles (squashed) in (stop snoring at the back) so thinking that yet another bin wagon will along to take the remaining blue box I left it and brought the other 3 boxes and wheelie bin back up the drive, and this is something to see trying to balance 3 what look like toy boxes on top of a wheelie bin whose lid is slanted, so now its getting on for 3pm and time to do the school run and box of plastic bottles is still sitting on the end of the drive so I had a look to see if my neighbours boxes had all been emptied - and YES they had - so whats wrong with my bottles, are they the wrong sort of plastic, quick check- no all recyclable so phone call in order to find out why my box has been left, and do you know what Mr CD says 'madam your box wasn't emptied because there was a can on top' "What?" 'a can in with your plastic bottles' - so I had a look and sure enough a pop can (coke) had been put in my blue box so I said that it wasn't my can (it was full fat coke - only drink diet) and someone must have put it in my box rather than throw it in the hedge and do you know what Mr CD said 'ah but the can wasn't squashed so we couldn't empty the box in case of injury' - no the men who empty the bins and boxes all wear thick gloves or they could have just left the can in the box and taken the plastic but no I now have to have a box of plastic bottles for another 2 weeks until they come round again -

so if anyone can enlighten me as to WHY WE BOTHER RECYCLING and sorting out cnas from bottles etc I really would like to know - answers on a postcard pleease
